“Sberbank” has introduced the “ATM of the future” with face recognition and support for Apple Pay

Sberbank established the first ATM that can recognize user’s face and carry out transactions without a Bank card. The company also promised to launch support for Apple Pay and Samsung Pay 2,000 ATMs by the end of this month.

“The ATM of the future” located in the office of “Sberbank” on Kutuzovsky Prospekt in Moscow. The first time you use a person need to create your digital “imprint face” – a biometric template that can be used for authentication in ATM without a Bank card.

The new ATM uses the face detection algorithm from Toshiba, which introduced the company RecFaces. According to the results of the pilot project, which runs until the end of 2017, the Bank will decide whether to develop the technology and implement it in other ATMs. The project cost has not been disclosed.

By the end of July “Sberbank” also promised to add support for the contactless service for cards with NFC chip for 2000 ATMs. Until the end of the year, the NFC will receive more than 10 000 ATMs. Through this feature customers will be available all the functionality of the ATM with the exception of the pin change.

First readers will only work with contactless cards of “Sberbank”, by September 2017, they will support cards of other banks.

In July 2017, it became known that “Tinkoff Bank” is going to incorporate into their ATMs computer vision technology, but the details were not disclosed.
