Mac sales are declining amid falling PC market to the level of 10 years ago

Research companies Gartner and IDC have published new reports on the state of the PC market for the second quarter of 2017. As the data show, Apple recorded a decline in Mac sales, although sales of computers of other brands are falling even faster.

According to Gartner, PC shipments worldwide fell by 4.3% in the second quarter of 2017. All manufacturers have put approximately 6.1 million devices, which is 4.3% less than last year. Thus, the PC market is declining for 11 straight quarters, and last quarter was the worst since 2007.

“The high price of PC due to the lack of DRAM, SSD and LCD panels has had a noticeable negative impact on demand in the second quarter of 2017,” — said principal Gartner analyst Mikako Kitagawa.

“Reaction to the increase in the cost of component was different. Some manufacturers did not increase the final cost of the computer, while others increased prices for their products,” the analyst added.

According to Gartner, the market leader is HP, those shipped 12,690 million personal computers (20.8 per cent). Lenovo owns second place with 19.9 percent, the company shipped 12,188 million computers, which corresponds to 19.9% of the market.
