Apple working on fingerprint scanner that will run under smartphone display. Application No. 9460332 was filed in June 2015 and is called the “Capacitive fingerprint scanner and electrostatic lenses”. In the document, Apple has described the possibility of introducing biometric module under the glass of the phone, and not the Home button, as in existing iPhone and iPad models. The described method of recognition of fingerprints suggests that the user can apply a finger to a specific area of the screen of the mobile device.

The inability to embed the Touch ID scanner under the screen due to the distortion of the glass, which makes it difficult to read fingerprints. To solve this problem the developers at Apple are planning to introduce in a display panel, a layer of electrostatic lenses. The last in a special way to adapt the image of the fingerprint in an accurate and submit it to dactiloscopy through the surface of the glass.
