Apple has become market leader in wearable devices, ahead of Fitbit and Xiaomi

According to analysts from research company Strategy Analytics, Apple became the world’s largest manufacturer of wearable devices in the first quarter of 2017.

For the first three months of the year, Apple sold 3.5 million “smart” watches Apple Watch, taking 15.9% of the world market of wearable devices. The former leader Fitbit, which produces fitness trackers, was in third place. For the past quarter, the company sold 2.9 million of its devices, compared to 4.5 million in the first quarter of 2016. The main reason for the almost double revenue drop is the significant decline in demand for activity trackers Fitbit.

Currently, Fitbit deliveries, revenue, prices and profits are declining, and the company has serious competitors this year.

The second place company Xiaomi, which shipped about 3.4 million wearable devices.

This week, announcing the financial results last quarter, Apple CEO Tim cook said nearly doubling sales of “smart” watches Apple Watch in a year. To reveal exact sales figures of their devices – similar to the iPhone, iPad and Mac – Apple still refuses and instead displays them along with the rest of the “casual”category.

The Executive Director said that at the end of last year, the company has gained from the sales of wearable products a sum equivalent to the annual turnover of the company from the list of the 500 largest companies in the U.S. according to the American magazine Fortune.
