9.3 iOS and jailbreak: is it worth to upgrade?

After the release of iOS 9.3 users of jailbroken devices had to wonder: and whether to move to a new OS version? To explain all the nuances, we decided to make a response in a separate article.

Recent version of the jailbreak from Pangu is for iOS 9.1, but by the time of its release many users have successfully upgraded to iOS 9.2, thereby eliminating for themselves the possibility to break the device. In this connection, the hackers got a lot of criticism from users of Apple gadgets. The appearance of exploits for old versions of iOS because iOS 9.1 contains a serious vulnerability. Technically a “hole” in security is described by the team member under the name Pangu Windknown.

Today we are in a similar situation. 9.2.1 cryptographic iOS contains a vulnerability through which hackers could decipher the pictures and videos sent in iMessage. This bug has been closed in iOS 9.3. But with the help of it, hackers can jailbreak the iPhone and iPad.

Is it worth to update to iOS 9.3? If you have iOS 9.2 or 9.2.1 and wait for the jailbreak for these versions, then you should refrain from installing the update. In this case, you must ensure that your use applications only from reliable sources. Avoid connecting to insecure and unprotected Wi-Fi networks. The same goes for iOS users with jailbreak 9.1: observe all precautions and install from Cydia only proven utility.

The fate of the jailbreak for iOS 9.2.1/9.3 is not currently clear. The Pangu team is currently focused on hacking Apple TV 4, and an Italian developer Luca Tedesco, announced a jailbreak for iOS 9.3 beta 1 already publicly disowned from public release.

Those who are not practicing the jailbreak, it is strongly recommended to upgrade to iOS 9.3. The system has received not only new features but also improvements in performance.
