Twitter has removed the limitation of 140 characters in private messages

Microblogging service Twitter has decided to lift the restriction on the number of characters. True innovation is affected only personal messages. Regular tweets remained the same length to 140 characters.

Twitter removes the limitation to 140 characters in private messages, said project Manager Direct Messages in Twitter Sachin Agarwal. Now the limit for private messages is 10,000 characters. Innovation will come into force after the update app service for iOS, Android, Mac and TweetDeck and the web interface.

The change only applies to personal messages that are not visible to anyone except the two parties to the correspondence. “You may be wondering what this means for public Twitter side. Nothing! The tweets will remain the same length in 140 characters”, — stated in the message of Sachin Agarwal.

Twitter was founded in 2006. The company’s main product is a social network for public exchange of short messages containing up to 140 characters. In total on Twitter more than 500 million registered users.

April 7, the service launched a feature that allows you to comment on additional 116 marks post which the user retinol and posted on your page. This service is available in the web version and the iOS app. In the near future, the option will become available for the owners of Android-devices.
