Sberbank is confident in the success of the payment system Apple Pay in Russia

Sberbank plans to the end of 2017 to transfer all the service points on the contactless payments. This was reported to journalists the Director of Department of merchant acquiring Sberbank Svetlana Kirsanova.

“By the end of the year we will provide one hundred percent coverage of all our Federal clients these terminals, and by the end of next year, the rest of the country, we will transfer the full ascontact” – said Kirsanov. According to her, now covering the acquiring Bank’s network of contactless terminals is 50%.

Within 2-3 years, the savings Bank will transfer most of their terminals for contactless payments, which means about 70% of the market, say in the consulting company Mobile Research Group. This, in turn, will lead to global changes in the Russian market and contactless payments will become the standard.

“Strategically, we made the decision long ago that the terminals migrate to becontact. This is done at the expense of Sberbank,” – said Kirsanov. She said that since August last year, Sberbank stopped buying terminals that do not support contactless payment. “Since last year, preparing our network to ensure that the accepting contactless cards and Apple Pay has been available in the most over-covered areas,” – said Kirsanov.

According to Mobile Research Group, at the end of 2015 Russia is set to about 65-70 thousand POS-terminals with NFC, which can serve contactless transactions. Of these, about 50% of the terminals that support Apple Play. Only in Russia issued about 200 million cards, of which about 50% — Mastercard, of which half supports contactless payments.

Sberbank announced the launch of Apple Pay in Russia on 4 October. This is a joint initiative of Sberbank and Mastercard, to take advantage of the service holders of Bank cards of the international payment system.
