Media: scanner iris will appear in the iPhone next year

Affiliated with TSMC, a major manufacturer of processors for iPhone and iPad, the company Xintec, will begin accepting orders for chips for scanners iris in the fourth quarter of 2016. MoneyDJ reported, citing trade publication DigiTimes. According to the resource, the iris scanner will be used for biometric identification of users of future iPhone.

The technology to identify users of Apple’s smartphone by scanning the iris of the eye, is expected in the next year.

“In 2017, Xintec will start mass production of chips for the iris scanners, which provide a significant increase in the releases of the company. The number of devices in which to apply the sensors, includes the iPhone release in 2017″, – specifies the edition.

It should be noted that the new fingerprint sensor have already found application in the Galaxy Note 7 is presented in the beginning of August. However, in the device Samsung technology is imperfect: poor lighting conditions may require more than one scan of the iris for recognition. In addition, the sensor does not work, if the user wears glasses or lenses. It annoys many people, with the result that they refuse to use the scanner iris in everyday life in favor of a fingerprint module or digital password.

Scanning technology iris provides 1000 times higher accuracy than the fingerprint sensors used in smartphones for fingerprinting. However, if you believe the media, at the moment Apple does not consider it appropriate to introduce iris scanner in its current form and working on improving it.

Reading the pattern of the iris is a much more reliable method of user authentication than biometric identification by means of fingerprinting, and may become an important competitive advantage in the market of mobile devices.
