Xiaomi almost caught up to Apple in smartphone sales in China

In the first quarter of this year, Xiaomi sold about 15 million smartphones that by 3.98 million gadgets more than the same period in 2014, according to Vestifinance with reference to the company’s report. Sales volume of smart phones, the Chinese manufacturer has almost caught up with Apple.

Only in the domestic market, China’s Xiaomi has sold 13.5 million smartphones. For comparison, Apple sold in the territory of China 14.5 million iPhone, taking a share of 14.7% of the mobile market. Xiaomi almost equal to cupertinos, receiving a share of 13.7%

The Xiaomi smartphone shipments in 2014 reached 61,12 million. Sales in China Apple and Xiaomi in the first quarter increased by 62.1 per cent and 42.3%, respectively. Samsung also lost ground: shipments fell by 39.7% to 11.2 million

Last year, the head of Xiaomi Lei Jun said that he hoped to change the situation with leadership in the mobile market American Apple and Korea’s Samsung. Chinese vendor expects in the next 5-10 years to become the largest manufacturer of smartphones in the world.

At the moment, Xiaomi is preparing to release a new gadget. In the network appeared information about the new smartphone, code-named Hermes with the possibility of installing two SIM-cards. The device will be built on the platform MediaTek MT6795. The structure of this 64-bit chip has eight cores with possibility of simultaneous operation. The platform provides support for 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM, GLONASS, Beidou and ANT+.

The smartphone will have 2 GB of RAM and the display format Full HD (1920 × 1080 pixels), the size of which is not specified. Presumably, the front camera will get a 5-megapixel OmniVision sensor OV5670, the main camera will be equipped with 13-megapixel sensor Samsung S5K3M2 ISOCELL.

Hermes will be enclosed in a housing with a metal frame and work on the operating system Android 5.x Lollipop with a proprietary user interface MIUI 6.
