Why the USB adapter to MacBook is not compatible with some Windows-PC

The 12-inch MacBook this year marked a new tendency: the refusal of a plurality of connectors in favor of USB C. Actually, in MacBook 12” this is the only connector (not counting the 3.5 mm socket for a headset), so I want it or not, we have to use. Strictly speaking, Apple was not the first company to introduce USB Type C — first we saw him, for example, the tablet Nokia N1. But after the release of the Apple laptop announcements of devices with USB-C began to appear more and more often. And therefore was a problem with the adapter, because without them, it turns out, to use the new connector is not yet possible.

Experts iXbt learned two adapter NEXX production and have found some pitfalls. This adapter with USB-C to HDMI and VGA.

USB-C is the format of the connector (really very handy thanks to its miniature size and symmetry). But the functionality of this connector may vary depending on the interface (and this, in turn, from the controller on the motherboard). This can be Thunderbolt, USB 3.0/3.1 and even USB 2.0.

Accordingly, in the first case we get a whole range of possibilities of connecting external devices and very high speed, in the second case — only the speed when you connect external storage, and in the third case, neither one nor the other. What interface is used in a particular case depends on the motherboard of the device.

12-inch MacBook is Thunderbolt, so USB-C with the appropriate adapter you can connect almost any devices: all USB peripherals, external drives, monitors, Ethernet cable. From NEXX adapter you can particularly benefit from the HDMI adapter, and VGA adapter.

The first option, rather, to connect a monitor or home TV. The second option is for business trips where you may need to connect your laptop to the projector (not always in the older projectors have HDMI). At a price of 3490 rubles and 2790 respectively is a good alternative to proprietary adapter on HDMI / USB Type A / USB Type C (or VGA / USB Type A / USB Type C), for which Apple asks 6990 rubles.

However, it is important to understand one thing: these adapters will only work with MacBook, or another device supporting the Thunderbolt interface. If you have a new motherboard with USB-C (for example, Asus Pro Gaming B150 D3), it is likely that the adapter will be inconsistent with it — for the above reason. To find out for sure, you should see which interface is implemented in the Board.

When you buy the adapter with USB-C will need to be especially careful and make sure in advance that it will be compatible with your device and adequate to your needs. It is clear that with time this will improve, but for now, it is a paradoxical situation: they wanted to implement a single connector to facilitate all of life, but in fact did the opposite. Previously, if a cable suited to the connector, so all options were available (maybe slower or faster, as in the case with different versions of the USB standard, but nonetheless). We need to focus not only on the type of connector, but the interface, as otherwise there is a risk in vain to spend quite a lot of money.
