Why Apple does not use the USB-C instead of Lightning for the iPhone?

In the Network there is ongoing debate regarding the decision of Apple to abandon all connectors in favor of USB-C on the new MacBook Pro. Some agree, saying it will help to push other manufacturers, while others believe that the transition was premature and the company would add to the laptops of the more common standards. But those and others consider strange the fact that Apple uses in the MacBook and iPhone different formats, the two devices do not connect to each other without a special cable. For that matter, why the company does not use USB-C in iPhone?

The answer to this question is quite simple. In 2012, when Apple decided to abandon the 30-pin connector, USB connector-C did not exist. And the company created its own advanced interface: compact, supports higher capacity and data transfer rate. USB-C was approved two years later. Of course, Apple could have waited a few years before to get rid of the 30-pin connector, but to her it seemed the most appropriate solution.

The second point. Apple traditionally uses its own connectors in mobile devices. Although the first-generation iPhone could get a micro-USB, kupertinovtsy decided to keep the 30-pin connector, the iPod debuted in 2012. Work with their own multimedia players was the main justification of this step.

By 2012 it became clear that this standard is outdated and no longer meets the requirements of Apple. The company had two choices: to create a new proprietary connector or switch to USB. At that time the situation of the latter was disastrous: there were three common format, USB-A, mini-USB and micro-USB. The last two have been preferable from the point of view of dimensions, but were limited functionally. Apple needed a more modern Protocol, which could last for another 10 years. So there was this ultra – convenient, compact, symmetrical and fully digital plug, suitable for mobile devices.

In addition, USB-C is the universal connector. It can be used for almost anything: for connection of “flash drives”, monitors, external drives and other peripheral devices, for charging and to transfer videos and other content.

Apple again faces a choice: to continue to use a Lightning iPhone or any smartphone universal standard USB C. to Say that in the latter case, the company will receive many benefits, it is impossible. First, she will have to transfer to USB With not only iPhone and other gadgets – tablets, keyboard, mouse, trekpay, headphones, etc. secondly, it will bring serious problems to users who will again have to go shopping for new cables, adapters, adapters.

However, there are rumors about the refusal of the Lightning. If they are confirmed, the first mobile gadget with a USB-C will be the iPhone 8.
