VTB Bank plans to conduct testing services for contactless cash withdrawals at ATMs. This was stated by the head of the Department of banking and information technologies of VTB24 Sergey Rusanov during an online conference. The project is scheduled to start next year.
“It is, of course, to support the possibility of using the NFC Protocol in the ATM in the first place, probably for wallets, Apple Pay, Android Pay, and Samsung Pay”, — said Rusanov.
Top Manager said that the Bank gives priority to security issues, because any decision in this direction can only be taken on the results of testing.
“Whether in the future this technology is available for all customers and for the entire network according to the results of the pilot? We understand this is based on the results. Because there is a balance between convenience and security, and yet we tend still to choose safety as a priority. We will conduct these pilots, and I think their results will appear some certainty,” he summed up Rusanov.
Earlier media reported that banks are planning to introduce the technology to withdraw cash at ATMs using the same technology as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Android Pay.
To use the system, banks need to equip their ATMs with NFC technology, which allows to exchange data between devices in a contactless manner. Bank representatives note that the ATMs with NFC are practically the same as without this technology, about $10 000.
The savings Bank does not offer customers to withdraw funds at ATMs with NFC, but are actively testing this system. “Opening” plans to launch this feature in the fall of 2017, and VTB has already equips its ATMs with NFC sensors.
ATMs Tinkoff Bank will also be equipped with a function to withdraw cash using smartphones, but only for MasterCard, and ATM of alpha Bank.
