“VKontakte” will hold a 24-hour hackathon with a prize Fund of 300,000 rubles

Social network “Vkontakte” will hold a 24-hour hackathon dedicated to developing mobile applications, with a prize Fund of 300,000 rubles. The event will be held from 31 October to 1 November.

During the hackathon to develop a mobile app that simplifies one or more daily tasks. “VKontakte” will provide participants additional opportunities, and opening APIs for partners.

According to operations Director “Vkontakte” Andrew Mace, the company decided to hold a hackathon to support programming and development of mobile SOFTWARE. Besides the prize Fund of 300,000 rubles, the company promises gifts from their partners.

“We have repeatedly emphasized two important points: firstly, it will contribute to the development of programming. We have already held two international tournaments for young developers VK Cup, supported student team programming contest. Secondly, the mobile platform becoming more popular and demanded, we have long observed their sustainable growth. In the future they will catch up and overtake the desktop. These factors influenced our decision to hold a hackathon to develop apps on mobile platforms,” says operational Director VK Andrey Rogozov.

The social network invites teams of programmers and developers, designers and authors of projects of mobile applications. Applications for participation are accepted in the community of the hackathon.

Previously “Vkontakte” has twice held the international championship on programming of VK Cup (2012 and 2015) and announced the holding of the tournament in 2016. The company has also for many years supported the Saint-Petersburg state University programming contest. At the world championship in programming (ACM ICPC), the SPSU team took first place and became the absolute world champion.
