VKontakte entered into a settlement agreement with Sony Music users will pay for music

Settlement agreement with the record company Sony Music will result in a social network “Vkontakte” paid music services. Claimed sources close to both sides.

The agreement was signed this week the Arbitration court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, which addressed the lawsuit with Sony Music to “Vkontakte” about the violation of the rights to use the music. In the end, Sony Music took off all the claims and was the first music major to which “Vkontakte” was able to negotiate.

The trial was discontinued, and the social network is preparing to start the process of legalization placed in her recordings, “Vedomosti”, citing its own sources close to both parties to the agreement. One of the sources said that concluded “a normal commercial agreement”, and implying the guarantee payments to the holders from the “Vkontakte”, and an equitable division of profits between the social network and Sony Music.

On September postponed the trial of “Vkontakte” with Warner Music and Universal Music, the other two major music majors which may end up in a similar way. Accordingly, “Vkontakte” have to gradually introduce elements of its paid music service – for example, a paid subscription to listen to music on mobile devices or the introduction of advertising in the course of listening to music on the computer. In the test period, rumored music service “Vkontakte” will remain free.

Recall that according to the complaint, Sony Music and other copyright holders in mid-July application “Vkontakte” for Android and app that allows you to listen posted in the social network music, have been removed from the online store Google Play. The next day access to download apps was restored.

A similar situation occurred in April 2014: Apple removed from the App Store the official app of “Vkontakte”. Four months later, the iPhone app is back, but with significant changes: users could not listen to the full audio, but only a 30-second excerpts with a link to an online music store from Apple, where records can be bought.

The representative of “Vkontakte” Giorgi Lubushkin noted that the social network periodically sends in the Apple app update for the iPhone, but the company does not approve of them. Comment from Apple was not reported.
