The Washington Post reported that in may of 2018 Twitter has blocked more than 70 million fake accounts were used to spread fake news.
According to WP, every day more than a million Twitter blocks fake accounts. This pace started in may 2018 and will continue in July. Affairs Harvey, Vice President of trust and safety at Twitter, said that the company only recently able to devote the resources and develop the technical capabilities to combat fakes.
The tightening associated with the alleged Russian interference in the American presidential election and mounting pressure from the U.S. Congress. The company noted that the number of daily lock has doubled compared to October 2017.
Some analysts have suggested that mass blocking can affect the number of active users. Twitter stated that the majority of fake accounts were held irregularly. The company believes that the statistics of the active users of the lock will not affect seriously.
