Top IT companies supported Samsung against Apple

Loud trial between Apple and Samsung lasts for several years. American giant computer electronics managed to convince the court that the Koreans had violated a number of patents, most of which are associated with user interface elements of the iPhone. And now the Korean manufacturer is fighting for a review of this decision, according to which Samsung has to pay Apple a billion dollars.

According to the publication Inside Sources, major tech companies, including Google, Facebook, Dell, HP, eBay, and others, entered into a patent war with a petition to the Federal court of appeal. The giants are asked to review the decision of past Apple and Samsung and to repeal certain provisions that have been identified as the first patent infringement. Silicon valley giants believe that claim Apple will lead to absurd results and devastating impact on the companies that annually spend billions of dollars developing high-tech innovations.

According to the IT corporations, smartphones are a very complex product that combines the thousands of hardware and software components, each of which individually may become the subject of litigation. As a result, any minor element like form of icons in the interface may void the manufacturer of the profits earned from the development of an innovative product. And it would set a dangerous precedent that will directly inhibit the industry and discourage innovation.

The trial between Apple and Samsung, which began in 2011, has been filed by the first due to an infringement of multiple patents, including function, Slide to unlock, scrolling, zooming with two fingers and some others. In mid-June, Samsung asked the court to reconsider Apple pay compensation of $548 million.
