The Russian Ministry of culture has launched the analogue of the Pokemon Go to museums

The Ministry of culture of Russia together with the project “Culture of the Russian Federation” introduced a mobile application Artefact based on augmented reality technology. The program is available for iPhone owners with iOS 9.0 and above.

Novelty is an interactive guide to exhibitions of Russian museums. The app uses the iPhone’s camera in order to provide the user with information about the work of art.

“Creating the Artefact, we aim to give Museum visitors a new and interesting way to interact with the exhibits. In this sense, augmented reality is an ideal medium, because it is possible to show that is not available in reality: lost fragments of the object before restoration. Simply point the smartphone camera at the object”, – told about the project adviser to the Minister of culture of the Russian Federation Vadim Vankov.

The application has been tested in the Vyatka art Museum Vasnetsov, Nizhny Novgorod state art Museum and at the exhibition in Sokolniki Park. Summer in Artefact will add information about the exhibits at the Pushkin Museum Pushkin and the Tretyakov gallery.

Augmented reality and image recognition system used in a new application that allows you to instantly obtain information about an interesting object. If the exhibit was restored, the app will show its condition before and in the process. In addition, the application can provide information about nearby museums and exhibitions, if they use the same technology.

It is noted that the application works not only in museums, but also recognizes reproductions of paintings on postcards and posters.
