Huawei, in collaboration with Japanese mobile operator NTT DoComo have conducted field trials networks of the fifth generation — 5G. Turning to the frequency band below 6 GHz, the partners have managed to demonstrate the speed of the descending channel on the peak of 3.6 Gbps, which is equivalent to 460 MB/s.
“For the first time in the world to successfully conduct such testing, and this is an important event. Frequency 5G is planned to be used for commercial purposes by 2020. Huawei and DOCOMO was able to achieve success, and now the next phase of testing will be conducted in Japan”, – said Vice-President of DOCOMO.
Tests are important because the exploited frequency range can be used in the real world. Other 5G-tests conducted by Nokia and Samsung in controlled laboratory conditions, rely on different frequencies (28 GHz and 73), which requires the construction of completely new network infrastructure.
The tests, which were held by Samsung, allowed to transmit data at a speed of 7.5 Gbit/s under laboratory conditions. When performing a similar test of movement speed has dropped to 1.2 Gbps, and the speed station with the receiving equipment was only about 100 km/h over a long distance of 4.35 km in These tests were performed with spectrum at 28 GHz. Nokia Networks was able to transfer data with speed 10 Gbit/s, but once again, the tests were carried out in the range of 73 GHz.
According to the International telecommunication Union, 5G-speed can reach 20 Gbit/s, ie the download of the full movie will take a few seconds. For comparison: now the channels 4G LTE on average give around 10 Mbps.
Besides the impressive growth of the communication speed, 5G technology will provide a greater number of simultaneously connected devices, higher spectral efficiency, lower power battery, better coverage, low latency, reduced cost of infrastructure deployment, high flexibility and scalability.
Now, Huawei plans to launch 5G network, together with its partners, and this should happen in 2018. Global implementation of the standard 5G is scheduled for 2020.
