The Ministry of communications of Russia has prepared the project according to which by 2020 the share of domestic traffic of the Russian segment of the Internet that passes through foreign servers, should be reduced to 5%. About this report “Izvestia” with reference to the already prepared and sent for approval the initiative of the Ministry in the framework of the project “Digital economy”.
In the section “Information security” specifies that now the figure is 60%. Thus, the Ministry of communications wants to almost completely leave the Russian traffic inside the country.
A source on the telecommunications market told the newspaper that today the main point of routing Internet traffic — Frankfurt, Stockholm and Amsterdam.
“The cost of connecting to the network there is seven times less than in Russia. This is due to economic reasons — first of all a big competition,” — the newspaper writes.
Director for project activities of the Institute for the development of the Internet Arseny Weltzin explained that the security and stability of the country’s economic development are in inverse dependence on foreign information technologies, systems and platforms, and traffic is no exception.
Therefore, he said, should strive to localize the internal processes, to dispense with foreign servers, but to reduce the share of domestic traffic through foreign servers to 5% by 2020 Seltino is unrealistic.
