The Ministry of communications has predicted a “dramatic” rise in price of mobile communications in Russia

The adoption of a bill requiring mobile operators to keep for three years records of conversations, messages and images associated with communication clients, will lead to a sharp increase in the prices of communication services. About this told the head of the RF Ministry of communications Nikolay Nikiforov.

The draft law, which obliges operators to store the call recordings, archive SMS and Internet traffic within three years, was introduced in the state Duma heads of the security committees of both chambers of the Federal Assembly (Senator Viktor Ozerov Deputy Irina Yarovoy). It is assumed that the storage of these data and making them available to security services upon request will help to strengthen anti-terrorist security.

According to Nikiforov, the implementation of this requirement is very technically complex and costly, and ultimately may lead to a “dramatic” increase in the prices of mobile services. The Ministry of communications will soon submit feedback on this initiative – the Department hopes that the authors of the document had in mind the facts of data transfer, not their full amount, said the Minister.

“Perhaps we can talk about storing information about a call or message, but not all the amount of information transmitted”, — quotes “RIA Novosti” the words of the Minister.

Earlier, representatives of the operators “big three” (MTS, Beeline, MegaFon) have estimated the storage costs of these data at 1.4 trillion rubles a year. The revenue of each company over the same period amounts to 300-400 billion rubles.
