“The messenger”: the Russian users because of the crisis moving to Chinese smartphones

In January-February 2016 33% sold in the country were Chinese smartphones – this is a record indicator for all time of development category, according to a study conducted by the retailer “Svyaznoy”. During the year the proportion of such brands has in creased 1.5 times. Experts are convinced that the Russians prefer smartphones from China in the fall of the level of their real incomes.

In just the first two months of 2016 in Russia sold 1.2 million smartphones of Chinese brands in the amount of about 9.5 billion rubles, the Share of Chinese devices in circulation amounted to 21%.

The most popular Chinese brand in Russia – Lenovo: it accounts for one in every ten purchased in 2016 the smartphone. For the year also more than 2 times increased their performance ZTE and ASUS. Now they are 5% and 4% in units, respectively. Also in the top five of best selling Chinese smartphones include Alcatel and STC.

“The purchase of smartphones of Chinese brands has become more than relevant, because in the conditions of falling real incomes customers make the choice more rationally, – said the commercial Director of “Liaison” Nikolay Pulich. – Previously, these smart phones were sold primarily in low price segments (up to 5-7 thousand rubles), and now their “influence” extends to middle and high price categories. Among Chinese or Taiwanese companies with a wide range of devices in all price categories can be noted Lenovo and ASUS, which, thanks to the penetration in high price categories, occupy a considerable market share not only in PCs but also in rubles. Now Lenovo and ASUS are among the top five leaders by revenue on the Russian market of smartphones, occupying following the results of January-February, 8% and 5%, respectively”.

At the dawn of its development, Chinese companies are often followed by world leaders in the field of technologies, using them in their devices. In recent years, Chinese smartphones are often not inferior, and in some respects superior to the leaders from the point of view of technical characteristics.

In the “Connected” expect that by the end of 2016, the share of Chinese brands in the smartphone market in units will exceed 40% in real terms.

According to estimates of “Euroset”, the share of Lenovo, Alcatel, ZTE, Asus, HTC and Huawei in the Grand total for January-February amounted to 30%, in money — 19%. Compared to the same period in 2015, the number of sales has increased by 8 percentage points, and volume — 4 percentage points.
