the iPad Pro ahead of all sales of the Microsoft Surface tablets last quarter

Analytical company IDC has published data on the market of tablet computers. The previous quarter has not brought any changes: the market continues to decline. For the year, global tablet shipments dropped by 14.7% – to 39.6 million units. The segment of tablets with keyboards connected at the end of the reporting period in percentage terms, showed three-digit growth, reaching in quantitative terms, 4.9 million units.

Analysts state that the transition to hybrid models (tablets with a detachable keyboard) in full swing, while the regular tablets sales continue to decline. Releasing last year, iPad Pro, Apple quickly became the leader, ahead of tablets Microsoft Surface line.

“Maybe Microsoft has created a hybrid market of tablets by releasing a range of Surface products,” says IDC analyst Jitesh of Ubrani. – Amid falling computer industry market hybrids took up an advantageous position as consumers and corporate users looking to replace old PCs in devices “2-in-1″. The recent arrival of Apple in this segment has led to the company’s leadership in the short term, though long term success may be questionable due to the high cost of devices and the fact that iOS has yet to prove its willingness for corporate sector”.

According to IDC analyst Jean Philippe Bouchard, smartphone manufacturers are just starting to fill the market for hybrid tablets, turning into a real threat to providers of traditional PCs.

In the segment of tablets, Apple remains the largest holder of market share, albeit a little thinner for the year: from 27.2% to 25.9%, which corresponds to the reduction of supply from 12.6 to 10.3 million units. In annual terms, the fall in supply was 18.8%. Samsung, which took second place sales dropped even more. During the reporting period, the South Korean giant managed to supply the market with 6 million tablets, which is 28.1% less than a year ago, equal to 8.3 million devices.
