The founder of Primate Labs gathered results from the Geekbench test for the iPhone 6s on different versions of iOS and established a link between low performance smartphones and depreciation of the batteries.
The developer of Geekbench analyzed data collected with the iPhone 6s, which were installed iOS 10.2, 10.2.1 and 11.2.
Results from smartphones running iOS 10.2 hardly differed from each other. The performance of the devices was kept at the same level until the release of iOS 10.2.1. After that the speed test gadgets started to vary.
Before the release of 10.2.1 iOS many iPhone 6s were faced with the fact that the device is unexpectedly disconnected. Apple has released an update that fixed this issue. Then the company representatives have reported that introduced changes to the operation of the power controller, but what changes were discussed, they did not mention.
Recently, one Reddit user accused Apple that it deliberately underestimates the performance of the iPhone to reduce the load on the battery, to improve autonomy and to avoid shutdowns when reloading.
“The difference in the Geekbench results between iOS 10.2 and 10.2.1 is too big. I think Apple has set a certain limit on speed for smartphones with a worn out battery,” said one user.
In the case of iOS 11.2, the situation is getting worse. The number of devices with low scores increases markedly. Most likely, it is due to the fact that the iPhone 6s upgraded to 11.2, already quite old, and the batteries in them are worn more than others.
What it all ultimately means? According to the data from Geekbench, Apple deliberately slows down their devices, if the capacity of their batteries falls below a certain level. And nobody talks about it.
It is important to remember that lithium-ion batteries installed in modern smartphones, are short-lived. Over time, they become less effective, not hold a charge like a new device.
