The margin of retailers for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus at the start of sales ranged from 4 to 12.5% and from 5 to 12.5%, respectively, according to “Vedomosti” with reference to the decision of the Federal Antimonopoly service (FAS). Earlier the Antimonopoly regulator has recognized Apple guilty of illegal price coordination on the iPhone.
Sales of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus started in Russia in October 2015, most retailers have established and kept for 2-3 months at the same prices for these smartphones. In early March of 2016, the FAS found Russian “a daughter” Apple – LLC “Apple Rus” – is guilty of illicit coordination of prices on the iPhone.
FAS cites the example that retailers bought iPhone 6s 16 GB of memory from distributors and Apple the price from 49 to 54 866 825 rubles, and sold at prices from 56 up to 56 989 999 rubles. Another model — the iPhone 6 Plus with 128 GB of memory were purchased at prices ranging from 73 to 79 491 790 roubles, and in retail the smartphone is sold at a price of from 83 to 83 989 999 rubles. Thus, the mark-up retailers in the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus at the start of sales ranged from 4 to 12.5% and from 5 to 12.5%, respectively.
To prove the coordination office was able to help with the correspondence of the managers of Apple and retailers. So, in the email domain apple.com one of the retailers it was reported that “this popadalovo”. The letter was accompanied by a screenshot of the page this retailer.
Another letter, where managers of the retailer write “eppl Rus”, contains the text: “In the attachment monitoring competitors’ prices. Partners again “acting up” with prices. At the last meeting you said you will cut these “pranks” on the vine, as it is now in your hands is a very effective “axe” in the form of deliveries of new models. Your words stand?”.
According to the service, in the coordination of prices was attended by 16 retailers: MTS, M. video, “Beeline”, “Eldorado”, “Euroset”, “Ozon”, Re:Store, “Svyaznoy”, “MegaFon”, “Hardware”, Media Markt, “Citylink”, “Refrigerator.ru”, DNS, “Know-how”, “Technosila”.
