Spotify has urged users to unsubscribe from the App Store due to Apple Commission 30%

Streaming service Spotify has sent out to its users, the letter in which has suggested to cancel their subscription through the App Store. The company explained this by the high Commission Apple — when you subscribe via the online store of the company is $10 per month the user must pay $13.

“Please be advised that the subscription to Spotify Premium is only $9,99, but Apple takes 30% as Commission. If you transfer the payment of a subscription website, you will be able to save,” — said in a letter to Spotify. The company also sent the instruction to cancel the subscription through the App Store and pay for the online service.

Apple denies services to publish in their applications links to purchase any of the services that can be purchased through the App Store, which well illustrates the attitude of the company to the market, says Bloomberg. The Commission for purchases through the App Store needs to pay for only those services whose content can be used in the application (video, audio, books, in-app purchases) — for example, United Airlines do not pay commissions for the sale of tickets through the app.

In a letter Spotify plans to start an open confrontation against Apple, whose methods some publishers consider unworthy of fair competition. If it will provoke active actions with the involvement of government competition authorities, it may force Apple to change the rules, writes Siliconrus.
