On the eve of the presentation of the second generation Apple Watch Samsung introduced its own smart watch Gear S3 with the operating system Tizen on Board, which, as already confirmed by the company, will be compatible with iPhone. Today we have the opportunity to become acquainted with the main competitor of the Apple Watch 2.
Smart watches from Samsung comes in two versions: classic S3 Gear and S3 Gear frontier. They are much larger than previous models differ from each other only by the fact that the Frontier model is complemented by a rubber strap.
Samsung Gear watch S3 equipped with a 1.3-inch round Super AMOLED display, capable of displaying 16 million colors, while the display Gear S2 has covered only 8 million colors. The screen has a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels (278ppi) and covered with a protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass SR+.
New hours Samsung has created a new SoC platform. It’s called Exynos 7270 and contains two processor cores with a frequency of 1 GHz. Probably talking about Cortex-A53, or a more modern Cortex-A35. The timepiece is also equipped with 768 MB RAM and 4 GB of internal memory and has support for Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, NFC and GPS. Gear S3 and the frontier will be available in version 3G and LTE.
Samsung Gear work with S3 running the operating system Tizen Wearable Platform 2.3.2 and compatible with any Android smartphones to Android 4.4.4 or above and 1.5 GB of RAM. Also, the Samsung officials have confirmed that the new smart watch will also support the iPhone.
Samsung Gear S3 is clad in stainless steel and protected from moisture and dust according to IP68 standard. Model Gear S3 frontier will only be available in black colors and with rubber straps, whereas the classical version is dressed in silver colour and equipped with a leather strap.
The launch of the Samsung Gear S3 is planned for the IV quarter of 2016. In Europe the recommended retail price S3 Gear and S3 Gear classic frontier will be 399 euros.
