Samsung, Apple and Huawei took almost 50% of the smartphone market in 2016

The volume of global production of smartphones in 2016 increased by 4.7%, reaching 1.36 billion devices. This is reported by experts of the research company TrendForce. At the end of last year Samsung, Apple and Huawei took almost half of this market.

The market leader remains Samsung. Experts note that despite the failure with the Galaxy Note 7, the company has kept the title of leader of the smartphone industry, registering a slight decrease by 3.3%. Samsung is not yet possible to stop the decline of its market share: in 2014, the contribution of vendor in the global production of smartphones reached 28%, in 2015 it fell to 24.7%, and in 2016-m to 22.8%.

Apple, as previously housed on the second place occupies 15.3% of the market, and a year will take a 15.6 per cent. The study notes that production of the iPhone last year decreased by 11.5% to 209 million units. Experts draw attention to the fact that the third largest player in the market from Apple now is just about 5%.

Weakening Samsung has greatly contributed to Chinese brands Huawei, Oppo and Vivo, which are gradually expanding their presence. At the end of last year, these vendors have taken in the ranking of the leading smartphone brands from third to fifth place with a share of 9.6%, 7.2% and 6% respectively.

In addition, the top 10 includes four more companies hailing from China is Xiaomi, Lenovo, TCL and ZTE. According to TrendForce, in sum, all Chinese manufacturers have released in the past year, 629 million smartphones and overtook the market leaders Samsung and Apple, combines the result of which was equal to 519 million units.

In the lead TrendForce forecast for 2017, according to which global output of smartphones will rise to 1.46 billion units. The output of the radically redesigned iPhone, which is expected this year, should help Apple return to positive dynamics and register a clear growth in production of their devices. While Samsung will continue to struggle and lose share to: is expected to be in the range of 22.6%.

As for the Chinese vendors, they will continue to put pressure on competitors from other countries and to increase the production of smartphones. According to analysts, this year Chinese companies will release approximately 50% of all smartphones in the world.
