Russians will be asked to participate in biometric identification

The Ministry of communications, the Central Bank and the FSB are developing biometric technology. In these centres the banks and the Russians offered to take the fingerprints or the iris image of the eye to verify your identity.

In the system e-government project until 2020, envisages the development of biometric technologies for identification of Russians. This document discussed with the it industry, 18 October it is planned to consider at government Commission on the use of it. As described in the publication Life of the Deputy head of the Ministry of communications Alexey Kozyrev, the Agency jointly with the Central Bank and the FSB is discussing future rules for the use of biometric technologies in Russia.

As recorded in the system project, often for biometric identification are used: “the voice, fingerprints, face, iris, signature, hand geometry. To increase accuracy it is necessary to combine multiple biometric technologies, for example, identification by voice and fingerprints”.

In the Ministry of communications will offer the Russians the opportunity to submit biometric information in the multifunctional centers of public services, offices, authorities or banks. In the future in Russia may be a national repository of biometric information.

Biometric data can not be transferred to another person or stolen unlike passwords, one time passwords (SMS), token or electronic signature.

Now many smartphones are capable of scanning the fingerprint. Camera these devices can be used to obtain a picture of the iris. Biometrics is easier to understand than, say, an electronic signature. And its use can contribute to the spread of electronic systems for government and commercial services.
