Qualcomm introduces the Snapdragon 821 with up to 10% more performance

Qualcomm has revealed to the world its new flagship platform. And, as it turned out, it’s called Snapdragon 821, 823 and not Snapdragon.

Snapdragon 821 is positioned as a “follower” model Snapdragon 820, provides performance gain of up to 10%. The company noted that the new chipset is designed to replace the predecessor and complement the product range.

821 Snapdragon also built on 14-nanometer process technology FinFET. The main difference between new SoC is increased up to 2.4 GHz, the maximum frequency of the processor cores Kryo. Note that the Snapdragon 820, the maximum frequency is 2.2 GHz. But at these frequencies it works senior a cluster of two cores. Frequency younger also increased from 1.6 GHz to about 2 GHz.

“We do not seek to replace the Snapdragon 820 updated model. Rather, 821 first need to strengthen common positions and complement family of chipsets, the Snapdragon 800,” Qualcomm said, noting that the first commercial devices based on Snapdragon 821 will appear in the second half of 2016.

About the graphics subsystem, the manufacturer has not reported. But most likely, it’s all the same – Adreno 530, but its frequency increased from 624 MHz to about 650 MHz.

In chipset installed the X12 LTE modem that provides communication speed up to 600 Mbps and there is support for 4K Ultra HD video and fast-charging Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.
