Published a list of computers compatible with OS X 10.11 El Capitan

June 8, Apple released the first developer build of OS X, El Capitan, and today the company released the official system requirements for the new desktop platform. Most Mac users will get the opportunity to move on rails OS X 10.11.

The basic requirements for OS X El Capitan are modest: a 64-bit processor Intel, 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB on the hard disk. Supports Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 or Xeon. Users of existing Mac will be able to update to the new OS not only with the current platform OS X Yosemite – visit El Capitan is possible even with OS X Mavericks.

OS X El Capitan can be installed on the following Mac:

  • iMac (mid 2007 or newer)
  • MacBook (12-inch, 2015)
  • MacBook (13-inch aluminum, late 2008), (13-inch early 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, mid/late 2007 or newer), (17-inch late 2007 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (late 2008 or newer)
  • Mac Mini (early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (early 2008 or newer)
  • Xserve (early 2009)

Some features of OS X El Capitan, such as AirDrop, Handoff, smart hotspot Instant Hotspot will require newer computers.

Note that OS X supports third year the same Mac, and the previous release of the operating system, after the previous three editors were sometimes limiting. So, OS X Snow Leopard does not run on a Mac with a PowerPC processor, OS X Lion has lost the support of 32-bit Intel processor and OS X Mountain Lion fixed compatibility with computers without 64-bit EFI firmware and 64-bit graphics drivers.
