Yota Devices has cancelled the release of the YotaPhone 2 smartphone to the U.S. market, according to Siliconrus. The Russian company has sent a notice to all who left pre-orders for the novelty, describing the problems with Assembly and delivery system.
Indiegogo campaign for the withdrawal of the YotaPhone 2 to the North American market was launched in the second half of may. It was scheduled to raise $50,000, but less than a day it was received twice. At the close of a piggy Bank in her was found the amount in excess of $280 000. Thus, the fees exceeded expectations Yota Devices almost six times.
At the stage of the crowdfunding campaign, the YotaPhone 2 has varied from $500 to $575 (sold the most expensive version enabled wireless charging). In the U.S. retail market, the smartphone should cost at least $600. Buyers could choose between black and white color options of execution.
In a letter to users who ordered the device, Yota Devices has explained that the supplier was unable to provide the necessary to run a number of devices, although the company was confident that the manufacturer will fulfill its obligations.
“It was a shock to our whole team. Our management is headed by the CEO last week met with the provider and in a last desperate attempt I tried to find a solution. However, questions remain insurmountable logistics — the device simply may come too late. We believe that a serious delay would have caused a conflict with our plans for 2016, and would cause difficulties for our customers with Indiegogo at the time, when users from other regions will be offered a superior, more recent and cheap YotaPhone”, – stated in the newsletter, Yota Devices.
All customers with Indiegogo, the company has offered two options — to apply for a refund or get a black model YotaPhone 2, intended for the international market. However, such a device will not be able to work in the U.S. LTE networks, warned in Yota Devices.
“The good news is that we found a new supplier who will be able to provide for our needs in the production of YotaPhone and deliver devices worldwide, including North America,” reads the letter. Company representatives warned that it would apply to future versions of the YotaPhone, which hit the market in 2016, and not YotaPhone 2.
Now YotaPhone 2 is sold in Russia, Belarus, Poland, the UK, Austria, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Finland, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark.
