President of Ukraine Poroshenko refused to unlock the “Vkontakte”

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko refused to unlock the Russian social network “Vkontakte”. On the website of the President there was a comment to the appropriate petition, which was signed by more than 25,000 people. Poroshenko refused, calling the social network “storage of pirated content” and a “hotbed of destructive groups.”

“Support for e-petitions on the abolition of the blocking of the Internet resource “Vkontakte” consider it impossible”, — stated in the official reply to the author of the petition. According to Poroshenko, this social network along with other prohibited sites “is widely used by the Russian secret service to promote Russian propaganda and special information operations against Ukraine and its citizens”.

“Online Russian the Internet-the web has got hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian users, who, not suspecting anything wrong, was unwittingly used as “cogs” anti-Ukrainian propaganda”, — said Poroshenko.

The petition for cancellation of blocking of a social network “Vkontakte” on the territory of Ukraine appeared on the website of the President may 16, 2017.

16 may, Ukraine has banned access to Russian social networks “Vkontakte” and “Classmates”, as well as to all services of the company “Yandex”. The lock is introduced for three years. Restrictions were imposed in the framework of the entry into force of the decision of the Council of national security and defense dated 28 April “About the use of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)”.
