Pavel Durov was on the side of Apple, who refused to crack the iPhone at the request of the US authorities

The founder of a social network “Vkontakte” and Creator of the messenger Telegram Pavel Durov stated that the program developers can not get access to secret chats users due to encryption technology. He told about it in interview to TV presenter Leslie Stahl on “60 minutes” that aired CBS.

“Encryption may not provide adequate protection only for certain people,” he said. In clarifying questions leading, whether Durov wish to gain access to private messages, he replied: “We can’t”.

Presenter Leslie Stahl asked him a question, what is more important: the privacy practices or the fight against terrorism?

“I personally stand on the side of privacy. You need to understand one thing: you can’t make an exception for law enforcement agencies without the danger of personal communications of hundreds of millions of people”, — said Durov. He concluded that the connection can be either for all protected or unprotected.

Durov believes that one precedent opening user data to the government will lead to mass surveillance of the population using smartphones. This position coincides with that of Apple, which is suing the U.S. secret services who need help in hacking the iPhone terrorist.

In early March, Apple lawyer Bruce Sewell called Telegram messenger one of the most dangerous applications because “they are terrorists and it is almost impossible to hack”. About Sewell said, speaking in Congress on the high-profile process between the FBI and Apple.

In an interview with the founder of “Vkontakte” expressed confidence that it is not welcome in Russia. According to Durov, he left the country because of pressure by the authorities after protests of 2011, when he publicly refused to provide personal information to the opposition. “I certainly feel that in this country [Russia] for me,” said Pavel Durov.
