Multimedia Art Museum has implemented an unusual way of communication with their visitors. Exhibited the works of art supplied electronic “beacons” iBeacon who upload information about the exhibits on iPhone visitors. Installed on the smartphone app-guide automatically gives explanations on the exhibits in the visitor to approach them.
“Only enough to approach you are interested in the work, and the iPhone will show accompanying multimedia content – photos, videos, detailed description or even a tour guide, which was prepared by the author himself”, – quotes RG developer Andrew podshibyakina. – All you need is to download the app using Wi-Fi in MAMM, start the app, turn on Bluetooth and start date with art in a new way”.
Support iBeacon appeared on Apple’s mobile devices with the release of iOS 7. The function works on the basis of low-power transmitters. In simple words it can be described as more accurate GPS that works indoors. Technology allows the Museum to transfer to mobile device data related to a specific exhibit. Approaching any object, the user will see on the screen of an iPhone or iPad detailed information.
“They can be used anywhere, so we tried to build on their base truly interactive guide to the Museum, for creating management application, that is not trivial to implement. One of the requirements of MAMM Museum was able to quickly update the contents of the interactive guide, quickly add new notifications for visitors who come nearer to the mark, ” explains Andrei Podshibyakin.
“The peculiarity of the creation of our application that we had not to just build a separate team for development of software and come up with the link content in the application submitted is in fact exhibits and technically to meet the challenge of installing a whole matrix of beacons in the Museum, which would be right and timely responses to the approach of the user with the iPhone,” says the Podshibyakin.
Similar technology is used in the famous Amsterdam van Gogh Museum, which is also able to communicate with mobile gadgets. However, the development for the Russian Museum – a fully domestic.
