The Continuum function is the trump card of Windows Phone in the fight for market share with iOS and Android in the premium segment. Such feature is not yet ready to offer solutions existing flagship competitors, including the iPhone 6s.
Continuum allows you to turn the smartphone on Windows 10 almost full-fledged computer when you connect to a large display. The platform provides seamless transition between form factors (smartphone – tablet – PC).
Of course, “ten” remains mobile, but the interface mimics the desktop of Windows 10. The gadget plays a familiar computing environment. Moreover, the user has access to versatile applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel or Outlook. Developers, in turn, will get the opportunity to create third-party applications that can be run on the computer and on the tablet/smartphone – they will automatically adapt to the current size of the display.
To use Continuum will need a card called the Display the Dock. He acts as a hub to connect the smartphone to monitor and manipulators. Presents a list of ports HDMI, USB Type-C, DisplayPort and three USB 2.0 ports. Thus, the device can connect keyboard, mouse and monitor, as well as, for example, a USB flash drive.
In a new promotional video Microsoft talks about the benefits of Continuum. According to the developers, the solution can be very handy while traveling when it is not possible to take with itself the laptop, but the smartphone is always at hand. Especially when you consider the level of performance of modern smartphones.
It is worth noting that only support a Continuum model based on processors Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 and 810. These include the flagship Lumia 950, 950 XL, which will go on sale in November. Smartphones on Windows 10 entry level with 512 MB RAM will get Windows 10 in a shorter form.
