MegaFon has agreed with Nokia on the launch of 5G networks in Russia

MegaFon and Nokia signed the Memorandum of cooperation in the framework of the project on the development of 5G in Russia, reports RNS. Domestic operator intends to promptly implement the network of the fifth generation in Russia.

The document stated that the company will study the technical aspects of the implementation and development of the standard and discuss with the regulatory authorities of Russia and international organizations the technical requirements of the new standard. The first test cluster 5G should appear on the Russian stadiums that will participate in the World Championship — 2018 on football.

“We are interested in the immediate implementation of 5G in Russia, because we believe that technology will radically transform usage scenarios of mobile Internet, as well as to give full development direction of the “Internet of things”, – said the Director for infrastructure of “MegaFon” Alexander Bashmakov.

In may of this year a similar agreement was signed with Nokia MTS. The company will also implement a number of test projects using technologies LTE-Advanced Pro, the so-called intermediate solution is 4.5 G. networks of this generation is currently testing the telecommunications company Qualcomm.

First to launch high-speed wireless network, working on technology 5G, promised the Chinese company Huawei in 2018. It is expected that the global commercialization of 5G technology, which will replace actively promote throughout the world 4G (LTE), will start after 2020.
