Mastercard: Russia is ahead of USA on the use of Apple Pay and Samsung Pay

Russian users make mobile payments using Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Android Pay more than users in other countries. It is reported PLUSworld with reference to Mikhail Fedoseev, Director of business development and digital technology of Mastercard in Russia.

“According to the September 2016, the first four places on the use of mobile payments were the United States, Britain, China and Hong Kong. However, three months after the launch of mobile payment in Russia we have overtaken the US in terms of mobile payments,” said M. Fedoseev.

In addition, three Russian Bank included in top 5 banks by number of completed mobile payments. One of the Russian banks tops this list. M. Fedoseev reminded that Mastercard started Samsung Pay support in Russia in September 2016, Apple Pay in October 2017, Android Pay in may 2017.

Fedoseev explained that these indicators have been achieved thanks to broad support for banks mobile payments and availability of contactless technology.

In Russia, Apple Pay has earned 4 Oct 2016. At the moment payment system available in Australia, China, Spain, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Taiwan, Russia, Singapore, Italy, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, UK and USA.

Earlier, the head of Sberbank German Gref complained about the poor infrastructure of Apple Pay in the US. “The level of use of contactless payments — although we started, in fact, six months ago — are higher in Russia than in any developed countries. We were recently in the United States and unsuccessfully tried to pay using Apple Pay in the different stores,” he said.
