iPhone 8 gets a 5.8-inch OLED display and all-glass enclosure for wireless charging

This year is the 10th anniversary of the iPhone on the market. Japanese resource Nikkei Asian Review confirmed that Apple is preparing to release three new models of smartphone, including the iPhone 8 with a 5.8-inch OLED screen instead of LCD.

Previously voiced the rumors that the iPhone 8 will be equipped with organic led display. However, the sources, the Nikkei pointed to the diagonal of 5 inches. This, in particular, resource wrote in October of last year. Now, Apple approved the release of the model with a larger screen. Future iPhone will debut in three versions — two with a traditional LCD display and one with a larger 5.8-inch OLED.

The latter, probably, will support wireless charging. As expected, for the sake of the next smartphone Apple will change the case on all glass instead of metal. The supply of the glass panels will implement Biel & Lens.

Is deliverance from the metal housing, the main requirement for the reliable integration of wireless charging in a future iPhone. Although there are patented solutions for wireless charging in metal cases, interaction of radio waves with metallic alloys can lead to slow charging. In addition, it is believed that Apple lead designer Jonathan Ive has plans to introduce the iPhone, which would look like a single piece of glass.

Information about wireless charging in the iPhone 8 is confirmed by another fact. Not long ago, Apple officially joined the Wireless Power consortium promoting wireless charging technology.

It is believed that Apple will significantly revise the design of the iPhone 8: in addition to the glass housing and an OLED display with a minimal framework and a built-in fingerprint scanner, the device will boast an advanced function for user identification in the face. The official presentation of the iPhone 8 is expected, as usual, in September.
