Invented a material that can “heal” the cracks on your smartphone display

Researchers from the University of Bristol in the UK have invented a material that has the ability to regenerate itself over time. Innovative technology, originally developed for the repair of aircraft wings, will allow you to recover almost any surface, including the display panel of smartphones, tablets and laptops.

Innovative material made up of millions of microscopic spheres on the basis of carbonaceous matters in which the occurrence of cracks – for example, by dropping your smartphone on the asphalt – liquid is released. The latter fills the void, and dries under the influence of chemical polymerization reactions. The process can be compared with the scarring of a wound on the skin or with the “seal” her medical adhesive.

Depending on the ambient temperature, the recovery process can take from several hours to one day, according to RG. The head of the research group of Professor Duncan wass in his commentary noted that this discovery inspired by the ability of human skin to regenerate. “We just moved this spell on a synthetic material,” he said.

“Things such as mobile phone screens, which will heal itself when splitting, we can see already in the next five or ten years,” said the Professor from the University of London Richard CATLOW.

Electronics manufacturers have several years of experimenting with self-healing materials. At CES 2015, LG announced the second generation of the curved G Flex smartphone. The back of the device capable samovosstanavlivaemy the damaged surface in a few seconds. The speech, however, there is a “heal” only small scratches.
