Russian officials have found that foreign IT-companies monopolized local market. Particularly radical government officials proposed to limit the access of foreign producers to public procurement.
Is it possible now to reduce dependence on American and European IT development? Russia has its own assemblers of computers, smartphones and tablets, software and complex information systems, such as satellite navigation. But the comparison of price and quality often leads consumers to make a choice in favor of foreign products. In what segments of the IT market tries to gain a foothold domestic products?

However, PC sales in Russia are down and interest in this business around the world is also reduced.
Search Engine “Sputnik”
Sputnik had to replace the Russians even Google and Yandex (which is especially strange, given that Yandex is a Russian company).
According to a former state Duma Deputy Ilya Ponomaryov, the idea of creating a “national search engine” appeared in 2008 after the conflict with Georgia. Then it became especially clear that the Russians use the same “Yandex” or “Rambler” is not only to search for sites in the network, but also to read news and obtain information that is at odds with the official position of the state. According to the newspaper “Vedomosti”, like “media” search engines are not good enough for many officials and it was decided to create a similar resource content which you can control directly. The development engaged in “Rostelecom”, the initial investment in the project amounted to $20 million, but the sum of all investments in “Sputnik” for its support is not disclosed.
Anyway, Sputnik “took off”. It was launched in 2014 and since then has not achieved even one percent search share of the Russian Internet. The average number of transitions from “Sputnik” on other sites are now around 100 000, while the “Yandex” and Google it billions.

Russian companies also release their version of Linux — for example, AltLinux. Former communications Minister Leonid Reiman was going to modify the French operating system Mandriva to offer it to Russian officials, but recently, the company bought the assets of Mandriva went bankrupt.
Global navigation satellite system (GLONASS), like its American counterpart GPS, was developed primarily for the military. But now satellite navigation and civil users, no less: it can help in an unfamiliar area focuses on the entire transport and travelers. All major manufacturers of smartphones and tablets from Apple, now support GLONASS. Satellite navigation quarreled Russia and the United States even before the events around the Crimea: American power in 2013, banned construction on the territory of the country of GLONASS ground stations in response, Russia promised to disable the on-land GPS stations.
