In the United States are considering a law that would force Apple to provide accessories for iPhone regular workshops

In the United States consider a new bill that would legalize so-called “right to repair” of mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets iPhone iPad. Its initiators were the authorities of Nebraska, Minnesota, Massachusetts, new York and Kansas.

The bill is aimed at eliminating the model of “authorized service centers”, which adheres to most manufacturers. If it is approved, Apple and other manufacturers will be obliged to sell parts and accessories for electronic devices independent workshops and private clients. In addition, manufacturers will have to publish in open access service and diagnostic manual.

The bill is progressing lobbying company Repair.org, which represents the interests of independent repair shops.

The initiators of the bill believe that the authorised service centres set high prices for the repair of equipment. And the usual workshops have to order components from China or use components from failed equipment, to compete with the distribution centers.

Earlier the Commission of the Federal Antimonopoly service (FAS) of Russia initiated proceedings against Apple on suspicion of abuse of a dominant position on the market. In the FAS received a complaint that in 2016 the service centers was denied to an individual in the replacement of damaged display on your iPhone 6 Plus in the absence of deliveries to Russia the necessary repair components, offering the smartphone owner to replace with a surcharge.

Antimonopoly Department has established that Apple’s actions contain signs of violation of the law on protection of competition “by failing to ensure the possibility of using products of Apple Inc. (iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus) during the term of its service.”
