If the idea of the iPad Air was in subtlety, lightness and “air”, then the iPad Pro with a screen size of 12.9 inches was the “heavyweight” among Apple tablets in the literal and figurative meanings. Model weighs 723 grams — over one and a half times more than the iPad Air 2, and only 7 grams less than the first iPad version 2010. Today we had the opportunity to see first reviews the long-awaited product, which Apple positioned as a replacement for laptops.
Despite the fact that Apple managed to make the device lighter than the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (790 grams for a 12 inch screen), the iPad Pro is still heavy tablet. In the five years that have passed since the release of the first iPad, users spoiled by trying to accommodate as many opportunities as possible as much as possible a lightweight device. So now 723 grams iPad Pro seem almost overwhelming.
In size more of the previous iPad Pro iPad Air 2: 306 x 220 x 240 mm against 170 mm in length and width. The thickness of the tablet is also increased, but not by much — 6.9 mm compared to 6.1 mm iPad Air 2 — the difference is almost not noticeable. It is noteworthy that the iPad Pro itself is almost 2.5 m thinner than the Surface Pro 4. Not surprisingly, Apple CEO Tim cook is clearly positioning the iPad Pro as an alternative to the computer, not the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4.
iPad Pro is different from previous models not only in size, but also a couple of new elements. The first is the extra speakers on top of the device (recall that in all previous generations of iPad speakers were located only on one side). Four speakers instead of two struck us as an advantage: previous models the sound coming from one side of the device, to put it mildly, not pleased. Another innovation — the Smart Connector on the left side of the tablet to connect the cover-keyboard.
Russian buyers iPad Pro will cost from 65 000 rubles (the model with 32 GB and Wi-Fi). For about the same money in Apple Store offers the iPad Air 2 in the maximum modification with 128 GB and cellular module (67 000) or an 11-inch MacBook Air with the SSD 128 GB (70 000 rubles).
If we add to set Apple Pencil (7 800 rubles) keyboard and Smart Keyboard (worth $169, which is equivalent to about 10-11 thousand rubles), total price of device with accessories will exceed 100 thousand rubles. And this is a MacBook with 256 GB of internal memory or even the MacBook Pro with minimal configuration.
