To digital books look perfect on any device, in SKOLKOVO decided to create a new format fb3, which will replace the ePub and fb2.
“Litres” is developing a new format fb3 to respond to the increased demand for quality digital books. The usual ePub and fb2 file extensions do not allow you to transfer paper books to electronic form without losses, the company said. The intention of the initiators of the project, fb3 will allow to publish books with complex layout, a large number of tables, lists and illustrations.
However, it is not enough just to create a new type of file — it needs to be tailored to the needs of publishers that already at the stage of layout paper books could produce the same digital files. This process is planned to spend 50 million rubles this year.
The company “Litres” was founded in 2005, is one of the market leaders in distribution of electronic books in Russia. The range includes more than 750,000 e-books in Russian and foreign languages, among which about 31 000 free titles. Every month the catalogue is more than 2,000 new books.
The development of the format fb3 deals with the company “Litres Innovation,” daughter “Litres”. In January 2017, the year she became a resident of SKOLKOVO.
