Google announced an update to Android 7.1 Nougat in the framework of the announcement of the smartphones Pixel and Pixel XL. At the end of this month the update will be available in a version for developers on Pixel C, 5X Nexus and Nexus 6P.
The chief engineer of the divisions on the development of Android Dave Burke told about the main innovations of release. It turned out that changes in the first major update to Android will be the no more than iOS 10.1, which is already being tested by Apple developers.
In 7.1 Android developers can use the API to launch apps directly from the launcher, to expand the types of available content to keyboard input (stickers, animations, etc.) and configure the transition from the app to the system settings to control the built-in memory. Also provides support round icons as in the Pixel Launcher and displaying additional information about wall-paper (author, description, and URL).
The final version of Android 7.1.X Nougat will be more widely distributed and will be available on Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, 6P Nexus, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C, gadgets, released under the Android One, Pixel and Pixel XL. I promise that it will appear to the public in early December.
Note that iOS 10.1 is the first major update for iPhone and iPad – also proved to be quite modest innovations. Main improvement was a new mode of portrait photography on the iPhone 7 Plus. Also added a number of improvements in iMessage: the ability to repeat the effect sent a new button “Repeat” to use text effects with the option to reduce movement, as well as updated design of scrolling panel for applications.
