“I switched from Android to iPhone, because all the best games come out first on iOS”

Disputes about the advantages of the iOS and Android platforms have continued unabated for a long time and probably will never cease. Today we will examine this question from the point of view of mobile games. Chief editor of the resource Polygon Ben Kucher told that due to late release of new applications he refused Android smartphone in favor of the iPhone.

The last straw was the release of The Room 3. A few days ago I went to a local AT&T store, stood a huge queue and still exchange my Galaxy Note 4 for iPhone 6s Plus.

I did this not because I don’t like Android devices. The phones get better, the range of devices from Samsung does some things, Apple is not available. I have S6 edge without SIM card for use with Gear VR, and I can say that it is a great device. Flexible and intelligent Android mobile operating system.

However, Android OS is absolutely terrible for fans of new games. And I’m done. I’m not the only person who sees your phone primarily as a mobile gaming system, and only then as a means of communication. For people like me, Android is absolutely unprofitable acquisition.

I don’t want to wait for projects like The Room 3 and Prune on Android. I’m tired of companies like Bethesda announces a Fallout Shelter, and then see how iPhone owners are downloading apps while the rest had to wait for the Android version.

It spread to toys. Said that the Android version of the app for toys Playmation from Disney will be released soon, and on iOS it was already available. I could not check some aspects of the product, because it was simply unavailable to me. After all, I had Android.

Often the most interesting games from indie developers and major studios appear first on iOS and then a few weeks later (if you’re lucky) on Android. Sometimes it takes a few months, and sometimes it does not.

Why is this happening?

You until blue in the face arguing about the closeness of iOS, but the reality is that on Android you have to wait for the new releases. I met with Barry Meade, whose Studio created a series of The Room, and asked why the games come out first on iOS.

“Android is testing longer due to the large number of devices, – said the Foreign Ministry. – In the case of iOS it comes to testing, 8-10 of devices, and then only because we support pretty outdated. Android is hundreds of gadgets, all with different screen settings and hardware”.

On the other hand, players can test iOS games for Android players later.

“With such a strategy to release games for iOS first, you can be sure that it will get a large number of users, but with minimal possibility of errors arising due to the differences in hardware. This means that if the error still appears, it is unlikely hardware-related, and correct it, you will help future players on Android, – continued the developer. – Android users forget that for a later release their version of fewer errors and better performance because iOS users in a sense are the testers”.

I hope that this will help Android users to feel better, but I’m so tired of waiting. Depressing when a developer writes me about the new game, and I can only answer that it came out on iOS, and the release date Android-version unknown. Android’s ecosystem is complicated for me how I do my job.

I contacted the developer Prune Joel MacDonald to find out why we have so long to wait for the Android version. He replied that he was working on the iPad, so and has taken such a decision.

“If to speak more precisely, in the case of iOS we know the exact number of devices, said MacDonald. – Many indie developers before me have achieved success thanks to the games of premium quality on iOS, but with Android, everything is more complicated. There is a certain dynamics. Besides, it’s not just a smaller number of devices based on iOS, and that Apple supporters are more willing to pay for the game premium”.

No one is saying that Android is a bad OS, just more sensible to first release the game for iOS. Moreover, MacDonald praises the platform Google.

“Actually, from a developer’s perspective, the Android platform gives you the most pleasant sensory experiences, not to mention great players – he continues.- But as a developer, you should take into account the characteristics of the platform. I know that a lot of “free downloads” will be about 95%, and that’s what I watched. In many cases, for any wiser to make a premium game in free analog with advertising. But in the case Prune it didn’t make sense and I was not interested”.

It was the most polite statement about piracy I have ever heard. But if you are interested in a paid quality games, then iOS would be the best choice.

Expectations and reality

The reasons for the late release of games on Android are dependent on developers. Of course, some games come out in one day on both platforms (for example, the application of the Pip-Boy from Fallout 4). But it so often happens with games that interest me that I stopped to think about the reasons. The reality is that this will continue in the future, but I’m done.

Now I have a brand new iPhone , and I’m back on a closed ecosystem. And the first thing I did then downloaded The Room 3. I was very happy knowing that I can play all new games on the day of their release.

The approach of Apple’s mobile ecosystem isn’t perfect. It is often criticized by the developers, but ultimately, the games come out first on iOS. And I’m glad.
