How to make rollback with macOS Sierra on OS X Yosemite

On Tuesday, Apple released a public version of the operating system for Mac computers — macOS Sierra. You can upgrade for free on computers with OS X Mavericks and Yosemite.

macOS Sierra for the first time received the support of a personal assistant Siri, which allows you to search for files, start programs, search the Internet, play music and so on. Also Apple has added to OS universal clipboard, which you can use to copy data on one Apple device and paste on another. The Photos app now has a “Memories” and the tab appeared in all Mac applications.

Announcing Sierra macOS, Apple said that the OS will be compatible with various models of iMac, MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini and Mac Pro. The list of compatible devices are as follows:

  • iMac and MacBook, which came from the end of 2009.
  • MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini and Mac Pro that came out in 2010.

If you have already installed macOS Sierra, but found out that it is not ready to accept the innovations of the previous OS or the operating system seems more stable and productive, then this manual is for you. Below are three ways to recoil with the Sierra macOS to OS X Yosemite.

Note: before you downgrade with a new platform, you must save the backup information on the computer.

Method 1: a “clean” install

If it so happens that you have no backup of the operating system OS X Yosemite, you must install the system “clean”. You can use the bootable USB flash drive.

This method is preferable in terms of performance and reliability of the OS. Programs and services installed in the environment of OS X Yosemite will work with maximum performance. Method 2: restore from backup

If your on macOS Sierra (10.12) you had created a Time Machine backup to revert to OS X Yosemite (10.11) or OS X Yosemite (10.10) can be a few minutes.

Step 1: connect the external drive to the computer and save a backup using Time Machine. Alternatively, you can transfer the content to a secure location manually.

Step 2: Now locate the Time Machine drive on which you stored the backup of OS X Yosemite. Connect it to your Mac.

Step 3: Restart your PC, hold down the keys Command+R to open the recovery menu of the OS.

Step 4: In the panel of OS X Utilities, select “Restore from Time Machine backup”.

Step 5: Next, according to the instructions on the page, the “Restore from Time Machine, click continue, and then specify the source disk with a backup of OS X Yosemite.

Step 6: Select the appropriate saved copy: in the case of OS X Yosemite operating system version must be 10.11.x. Click Continue. On the next screen specify the startup disk of your Mac to restore a copy. Click the Restore button.

After you get another computer with OS X Yosemite.

Method 3: uninstall and reinstall OS X Yosemite

Step 1: make Sure your computer is connected to the Internet. Open in the top Apple menu bar and select Restart.

Step 2: when restarting, hold down the keyboard Command+R to open the recovery menu of the OS.

Step 3: Select Disk utility in the Utility app OS X and click Continue.

Step 4: Select boot disk and click the Erase tab.

Step 5: Select the computer name, specify the format Mac OS Extended (journaled).

Step 6: Click Erase.

Step 7: go Back to the main menu OS X Utilities and click Reinstall OS X. the Process will look like a normal installation of OS X Yosemite.

After reboot you will have a computer on OS X Yosemite. After you must perform a standard set of actions, including the inspection and installation of system updates and download the necessary software.
