How to encrypt data on the iPhone and Android device and why it should be done

The trial between the Apple and the FBI was suspended, but loud process has led many users to think about the confidentiality of data stored on their smartphones. Can we consider iPhone and Android device safe? And how to make their devices an adequate level of data protection?

iPhone

In the case of iPhone no difficulties will arise. Any information will be secured immediately after creating the password you use to log in to the operating system. Without knowledge of the secret combination of characters no one can access your photos, messages, notes, Bank details, etc. Despite claims by the FBI about the hacking of the iPhone 5c shooter from San Bernardino, the possibility to crack encrypted data on the current models is still open.

If you are not using a password on the lock screen, then you should install it. To do this go to menu Settings -> Touch ID & passcode and turn on the prompt for a password.

Android

C Android, the situation is somewhat more complicated. The more modern smartphone, the better protected the data stored on it. Users of devices from the “reference” Nexus line, the Galaxy S7 and the other running Android 6.0, enough to activate the password settings, as mentioned above.

For old smartphone encryption must be enabled manually. In this context, even the Galaxy S6, and Moto X Pure considered obsolete. Go to Settings -> Security and select Encrypt phone. From this menu you can encrypt the memory card, then it is necessary to set a password for the lock screen.

It is worth considering that the performance of Android smartphone with encrypted data may be materially adversely affected. On newer phones, the difference in performance is not very noticeable, but older models will perform significantly slower or significantly “retard”.

With the release of iOS 8, Apple began to use encryption, which provided the correct password does not allow third parties to access data on the iPhone and iPad. Currently, according to studies, 95% of Apple gadgets the data is encrypted. On Android the situation is reversed – only 10% of the 1.4 billion sold “phones” have strong data encryption.
