How to create a bootable USB stick with OS X El Capitan

Earlier this month Apple announced a new operating system release for Mac OS X El Capitan. Most of the changes in OS X El Capitan have been made to improve the stability and security of the data, however, some innovations are visible to the naked eye. Among the major innovations: the control mode of the workspace Split View, updated Spotlight search, new features, Safari, advanced options such as “Notes”.

Like previous releases of OS X El Capitan is distributed through the developers website, and, with a little effort, you can prepare a bootable USB flash drive with the OS. This will make the installation process more flexible. The procedure for creating a bootable flash drive with OS X El Capitan is slightly different from previous systems, although not much more complicated. Before proceeding, we offer you to familiarize yourself with the requirements.

Requirements:

  • The computer that is compatible with OS X El Capitan (list of models here).
  • The operating system image OS X El Capitan.
  • Blank flash drive, minimum 8 GB.

How to create a bootable flash drive with OS X El Capitan:

Step 1: connect the USB drive to the computer.

Step 2: Download and install the latest version DiskMakerX. Run the program.

Step 3: Click 10.10 Yosemite (El Capitan option is not yet available).

Step 4: Click select “Select an Install”.

Step 5: In the applications folder, locate the file Install OS X 10.11 Developer Beta and click “Choose”.

Step 6: Click “An 8 GB USB thumb drive”.

Step 7: Select the USB drive and click “Choose this disk”.

Step 8: the Program will warn that in the next step it will remove all data on the disk. Click “Erase then create the disk”, then “Continue”.

Step 9: Click next and enter the administrator password.

Step 10: After you finish creating the boot disk, press Quit.
