How to backup your Mac to a disk image

The developers of Carbon Copy Cloner has announced a new version of the utility which is fully compatible with macOS Sierra. This application allows you to clone a hard drive partition and store it separately on another computer or external media. In the future, “Makovod” can quickly restore your system with all applications, drivers, documents and other files.

Also the utility will help with regular backup. To do this, simply select the source drive, install/remove checkboxes next to the desired elements and specify the location where you will copy. All these operations can be carried out even from another PC on the network. Now, in the case of corrupted data, hardware, and any other disaster recover all the information will be very simple.

Carbon Copy Cloner allows you to create full or partial clone of your Mac transferring it to another drive or saving it in the form .dmg (disk image).

Step 1: Download Carbon Copy Cloner at this link, run the app.

Step 2: Press Source and select Macintosh SSD.

Step 3: Now you need to specify the size of the copy button in the Destination section.

Step 4: Select New disk image. Select the folder where you will store the image of your disk.

If you need the image you will be able to modify, in item Image Format file specify read/write sparse disk image. The result file will be created .sparseimage. Otherwise, the utility will create a dmg image read-only. Select optional encryption. Click OK.

Step 5: Click the Clone button in order to start creating a backup.

Step 6: the Program will warn you that you will not be able to boot the specified disk. Click Continue Anyway.

Step 7: after a few hours (depending on amount of data) will be created in the image of the whole disk of your Mac.
