Hackers have infected the 16 000 Android smartphones in Russia for stealing money from Bank cards

Police in Russia stopped the activities of a group which was infected with 16 000 of Android smartphones with the purpose of stealing money from Bank cards. About it reports “RIA Novosti” with reference to the official representative of the Ministry of internal Affairs of Russia Elena Alekseeva.

To field investigators it became known that on the territory of Yaroslavl and Nizhny Novgorod region there was a criminal group engaged in illegal money transfers from Bank cards. The amount of damage caused to suspects Russian Bank, the interior Ministry did not specify, as the name of the credit institution.

The review indicated that well-functioning and extensive network allows attackers to commit crimes not only throughout Russia but also in Ukraine. They used a malicious program for Android-based smartphones, allowing them to quickly create a botnet consisting of more than 16,000 compromised mobile devices.

It was found that the organizer and ideologist of the criminal group was 35-the summer inhabitant of Yaroslavl, directly governing the activity of regional cells. He was detained and taken into custody. Now the man gives grateful evidences.

During the searches seized a considerable amount of computer equipment, mobile phones, laptops, 223 SIM card 34 USB modem and a credit card.

The police establishes the involvement of the defendants in other crimes. Currently the botnet ceased to exist.
